What's Biting in Charleston Waters
May is delivering steady inshore action across the Charleston area, with warmer temperatures bringing increased activity along the flats, grass lines, and deeper channels. Anglers are finding success with redfish, speckled trout, and flounder, especially during moving tides and early morning hours.

Redfish are cruising the shallows in good numbers, with many slot and over-slot fish caught around oyster beds and grassy points. Live bait like mud minnows and shrimp are producing well, but artificial lures like paddle tails and jerk baits are also doing the job—especially when sight fishing on clear, calm mornings.

Speckled trout are hitting around creek mouths and drop-offs, with the best bites coming on soft plastics under popping corks. The early topwater bite is starting to heat up too—great news for light tackle anglers. Flounder are making more frequent appearances along sandy transitions and structure, and they’re hitting slow presentations near the bottom.

Overall, inshore fishing in Charleston is in full swing. With strong tidal movement and warming water, now is the time to get on the water for consistent bites and active fish.
